The Fox and the Crow - Panchatantra Tales | Moral Story for Kids
One bright and sunny morning, a hungry fox was walking through the forest with his tummy growling.
Fox (sniffing the air): “Sniff sniff... Mmm! What’s that delicious smell? Smells like... fresh bread!”
He followed the yummy smell and looked up. There, sitting proudly on a tree branch, was a crow with a big, tasty piece of bread in her beak.
Fox (whispering): “Aha! Miss Crow has my breakfast! But wait… I can’t climb trees. Hmm… time for some fox tricks!”
He walked to the tree and called out sweetly:
Fox: “Good morning, O beautiful bird! Wow! Look at you! So shiny, so black, so elegant! You must be the queen of the forest!”
The crow looked down suspiciously and kept her beak tightly closed. She didn’t trust this sweet-talking fox.
Crow (thinking): “Nice try, Mr. Fox. I know you're after my bread!”
But the fox didn’t give up.
Fox (dramatically): “Oh! What feathers! What grace! But wait... one thing is missing. Your voice! I bet your voice is sweeter than a nightingale’s. If only I could hear one tiny song… then I will tell the whole forest you are the Queen of Birds!”
The crow’s eyes sparkled. She puffed up her chest proudly.
Crow (thinking): “Queen of Birds? That sounds nice! I do have a nice voice, don’t I?”
Without thinking, she opened her beak to sing:
Crow: “CAAAWWW—”
Plop! The bread fell straight from her beak and landed right into the fox’s mouth.
Fox (chewing): “Yum! Thank you, Your Majesty. You sing well, but… you think very little!”
Crow (realizing): “Oh no! I’ve been tricked! Again!”
🧠 Moral of the Story:
Don’t get carried away by flattery. Think before you open your mouth — especially if there’s food in it! 😄
